I’m right in the midst of the editing process. I’ve given myself roughly a week before I go home for Christmas to create my first rough completed draught to show to my tutor. I can hopefully make the changes he advises me on when I come back.
It’s been a very frustrating process. I decided to edit the sequence featuring my trip to Southampton first and then insert it into the rest of the documentary later. I don’t think this was the best plan as it ended up being very long and so I had to edit big chunks of it out make room for my other interviews anyway. The Posh Ellen interview in undoubtedly the most difficult to edit due to the ambient noise which I included to give the sequence some atmosphere. I think I’ve achieved that but it’s meant that to cut sections out I’ve had to be clever about the edit to make the transitions sound seamless, which has been time consuming. In hindsight a more structured plan from the start may have actually been quicker in the long run, but I’ve learnt from my mistakes and made one for the rest of the documentary.
Adobe Audition, the editing software I’m using, has also crashed on multiple occasions meaning I’ve been losing hours of progress. I was worried that I hadn’t given myself enough time but today I managed to create a solid introduction and I’m feeling a lot more optimistic. I can clearly visualise how the documentary will flow now and I’m beginning to actually enjoy editing some of the music and transitions which certainly wasn’t the case at the start of the editing process.
I go home in three days time, I’ll check in again when I’m back.
